About AMIS Nigeria

Association of Model Islamic Schools Nigeria (AMIS) is committed to fostering unity of idea and co-operation among private Islamically oriented Nursery, Primary and Secondary Schools in Nigeria.

We engage in formulation and implementation of programmes and policies aimed at assisting the regulation, growth and improvement of standards in member schools. We also serve as a mouthpiece for member schools in relation to government.

ALIU BADMUS
National President

Mallam Aliu Badmus holds a first degree in Economics (B.Sc, 1981) and a higher degree in Agric Economics (M. Sc,1984) both from University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University). He worked as a teacher at the tertiary level between 1986 and 2006, and rose to the peak of his career as a Chief Lecturer at Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin. As a mark of his passion for education, he established Iqra Schools in 1998 and has since been a member of the Association of Model Islamic Schools (AMIS). He served as AMIS Vice President (2019-2025) before becoming its President. Mallam Badmus is a Muslim activist; he is a member of both Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC).

Surajoddeen Murtala Dabo
National Vice President

Surajoddeen Murtala Dabo is a seasoned banker, educationist, and community leader with vast experience in financial management, school leadership, and social development. Known for his integrity, resourcefulness, and commitment to excellence, he combines professional expertise with a deep passion for uplifting communities through education and empowerment. He built a distinguished banking career of over two decades at Polaris Bank (Afribank Nigeria Plc), before he resigned voluntarily in 2011. He rose to the Management cadre across Kaduna, Abuja, and Kano. His contributions extended to the national stage as: 1, Chairman, Loans Approval Committee of the UNDP/BNSG/Afribank Micro Credit Scheme. 2, Member, CBN -National Working Committee on Rural Savings Mobilisation. As Founder of Al-Areeb School, Kaduna, he has established a respected Islamic-oriented private school that integrates strong academics with moral and spiritual development. He is also the Founder of Alkhariyya Orphans Education Foundation, which provides quality education, skills training, and holistic care for orphans and vulnerable children, enabling them to fulfill their potential. Currently, he serves as: • Chairman, Kaduna State Chapter of the Association of Model Islamic Schools (AMIS) • Coordinator, Kaduna State Non-State Schools Forum Mr. Dabo is a member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), and the Institute of Industrialists & Corporate Administrators. He has attended several professional development courses both local and international. Educated at Ahmadu Bello University and Barewa College Zaria. He is married with children and remains deeply committed to building future leaders and contributing to a healthy, well-educated society.

Shakirullah Abiodun Yekeen
Secretary General

Shakirullah Abiodun Yekeen is a passionate educational consultant, social entrepreneur, and seasoned educationist with over 20 years of experience in educational management and community development. Guided by an ethical leadership style, he is deeply committed to fostering holistic education and creating lasting positive change within society. He is the Co-founder of Al-Ikhwan Group of Schools in Osun State, Nigeria, a modern educational institution dedicated to academic excellence and moral upbringing. He also serves as the Proprietor of *The Crescent Schools in Ibadan, Oyo State, where he continues to champion innovative learning and the nurturing of future leaders. Beyond his contributions to education, Shakirullah is a respected community and religious leader, widely recognized for his passion and dedication to religious advancement, youth empowerment, and community development initiatives. Through his visionary efforts, Shakirullah Abiodun Yekeen has consistently demonstrated a lifelong commitment to education, ethical leadership, and social transformation.

Assistant Secretary General

Misbaudeen Zakariyah Akinola
National Treasurer

Misbaudeen Zakariyah Akinola is the Founder and Director of Kanz Schools, Madrasat Kazul-Ardi, and CEO of Kanz Prints. He is also the Co-Founder of Al-Wahid Society, Founder of its Ilemba Awori branch, and Founder of Kanz Foundation. For over 25 years, he has served as the Grand Chief Imam of Igbede Land, Lagos State, providing leadership as both a community and religious guide. He currently serves as Financial Secretary of the Association of Chief Imams, Imams and Alfas, Badagry Division, and is a member of the Ojo Leaders Forum. He has been deeply involved in AMIS, rising from foundation member to Assistant Secretary, Vice Chairman, State Chairman, and now National Treasurer. He has also contributed through several committees, including the National Shurah Committee, National Finance Restructuring Committee, and as Chairman of the Southwest and Kwara Shurah Committee etc. His life’s work centers on educational leadership, publishing, Islamic preaching, counseling, and spiritual upliftment. Passionate about youth empowerment and legacy building, he remains committed to propagating Islam, serving humanity, and leaving lasting positive contributions for future generation.

Arafat Abdulwaheed Olarinoye
Financial Secretary

Arafat Abdulwaheed Olarinoye is a passionate educator, edupreneur, and consultant with over two decades of cognate experience. He is a holder of both HND Accountancy and BSc. Accounting, a Post-Graduate Degree in Education (PGDE), and an MBA. In addition, he is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and also a Chartered Teacher certified by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).

Served as the chief examiner, AMIS SWK, and Oyo state AMIS Exams for three consecutive years without compromising Islamic values and high academic standards. Halimah Saadiyyah Baba
Public Relations Officer 2

“Passionate about education, leadership, and community impact.” Halimah Saadiyyah Baba is an educationist, leader, and mentor with a passion for nurturing young minds and building strong learning communities. A graduate of the University of Abuja with a degree in Business Administration, Halimah began her career as a civil servant before following her calling in education. In 2007, she founded Usra Academy, Kaduna, starting with nursery and primary classes. Today, the Academy has grown into a thriving institution offering Senior Secondary education and has proudly graduated seven sets of students over its 18-year journey. Beyond academics, Halimah successfully managed the school’s building construction project, overseeing the procurement of furniture, equipment, and essential consumables—laying a strong foundation for the Academy’s long-term growth. She has also organized community-focused events, including the Eid Fair and AMIS Day competitions, creating opportunities for student development, collaboration, and cultural celebration. She holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) and is a certified Instructional Leader by the ILM Institute and the British Council. With this expertise, she has mentored and inspired several exceptional school leaders across Nigeria. Halimah has been an active member of AMIS since 2013. She served as the Kaduna State Chairperson from 2014 to 2023 and now contributes nationally as the Public Relations Officer. Her career reflects her unwavering dedication to quality education, leadership development, and community service.

Dr. Akinwale Olatunji AKINLABI
National Legal Adviser

Dr. Akinwale Akinlabi is a legal practitioner, mediator, arbitrator, and entrepreneur. He is the Managing Partner of Wale Akinlabi & Partners (Lawpoint Chambers) and the Publisher of IbarapaWatch (since 2003). He is also the Director of Mimbar Children School (2009) and Mimbar College (2018) in New Bodija and Agodi GRA, respectively. He is equally a director at BaytulLah Travels (2011) and CEO Lawpoint Publishers (2022). Wale is an accredited mediator on the panel of both Lagos State and Oyo State Multidoor Courthouses. He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK). He bagged two first degrees in Chemistry (2000) and in Law (2013), respectively, from the University of Ibadan and Masters’ degree in Law (2016) from the same institution. He also holds three certificates in Arabic proficiency (listening, speaking, and writing) over a 3-year short courses programme at the Arabic Training Centre, Cairo under the auspices of the Council of Europe Language Policy (2015-2018). He is an alumnus of IESE Business School, Barcelona (2019), where he got a certificate in the International Pan African Module. He bagged an MBA from the Lagos Business School (2020). He obtained a Ph.D. in Energy Law (2022) at the University of Ibadan. He is a Senior Lecturer and Head of Department; Commercial and Property Law at Crescent University, Abeokuta, where he teaches Equity & Trusts, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Labour Law. He is also a Crescent University Orator; a position he attained within a week of joining the university in 2022. Wale serves as the Secretary of Board of Trustees to a number of NGOs, including the Forerunner Welfare Foundation and the Harvest of Talents. Dr Akinlabi is the National Secretary General, Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria (MULAN), and the National Legal Adviser, Association of Model Islamic Schools in Nigeria (AMIS). He is the Aare Baamofin of Iberekodoland and married with a wife and blessed with seven children; five boys and two girls.

National Auditor

Abubakar Muhammad Bello is a dedicated Electrical & Electronic Engineer with progressive qualifications, including a National Diploma, Higher National Diploma, and Postgraduate Diploma in Electrical & Electronic Engineering. He possesses a strong blend of technical expertise and digital proficiency, with skills in SQL, HTML, and Web3 Technologies, enabling him to align engineering practice with modern digital transformation. Currently serving as the Secretary of the Association of Model Islamic Schools (AMIS), Bauchi State Chapter, His career interests lie at the intersection of engineering and technology-driven innovation, with a commitment to applying analytical skills, professional integrity, and technical knowledge to create sustainable solutions.

Doctoral fellow of the institute of professional managers and administrators IPMA He is a 21st Century digital expert, a Seasoned negotiator and conflict resolution expert. He is also an I.T. professional, eloquent speaker and a distinguished Nigerian muslim driving change and adding value on issues that borders on the deen, national Unity and progress.

Saleh Adamu Kwaru

Malam Saleh Adamu Kwaru is a seasoned Banker with 3 decades of experience with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), where he worked at various Strategic Business Units before he voluntarily retired in 2018. During his career with the CBN, he served in several Corporate and inter-agencies committees as well as received many Merit Awards/Recognition for outstanding performance. He holds a Masters in Islamic Banking and Finance (MIFB), Masters of Business Administration (MBA), Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM). He is a member of many professional bodies which included: Commodity Brokers Association of Nigeria (CBAN), Chartered Institute of Statistics of Nigeria (AMCISON), Nigeria Institute of Management (Chartered) (AMNIM), Institution of Cost Management (AMICM), Authorized Dealing Clerk, Nigeria Commodity Exchange (NCX), Certified Teacher, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Certified National Accountants (ANAN), Institute of Chartered Certified System Accountants - (ICCSA-USA), among others. He is currently concluding his Doctorate Degree in Business Administration with a specialization in Corporate Governance and Leadership Malam Saleh is a motivational Speaker, Prolific Public Commentator, Discussant, and Analyst on Monetary and Fiscal Policies, Banking, Business development, Commercial Agriculture, and Education. He has proficiency in information systems and technology, including Microsoft Office Suite, Enterprise Resource Planning (Oracle Suite), Web Content Management, and Data Analytics. He has participated in over 50 multifaceted training courses, seminars, and conferences both domestically and internationally, focusing primarily on human development indices. His hobbies include community involvement, blogging, reading, and computing. He was a Permanent Commissioner of Kano State Civil Service Commission, the immediate past National President of the Association of Model Islamic Schools (AMIS), and President, Coalition of Non-State School Associations. He is the National President of the Financial Ambassadors of Nigeria (FLAN), the Registrar/General Secretary of Commodity Brokers Association of Nigeria (CBAN), Deputy President of the Jama’atud Nasril Islam Kano Branch, and Board Member of many organizations. Mal Saleh is now a Senior Partner, Marketing and Business Development, with BVA Partners Ltd, a Financial Consultancy Firm specializing in Forensic Audits of Bank Transactions to recover unlawful charges and facilitate their return to customers.

Current Professional Title: Lecturer 11, Department of Crop Production, Federal University of Technology Minna; Administrator, Sha’h-zan Schools, Minna; Co-Founder, 1st Al-Abrar Academy, Minna; Ex-Officio, Association of Model Islamic Schools (AMIS) Nigeria; Secretary, AMIS Niger Chapter Core Expertise: Islamic school leadership, teacher training, curriculum development, community development, and agricultural education. Key Accomplishments: Rose through the ranks at Sha’h-zan Schools, Minna from classroom teacher to Head of Schools, and now serves as Administrator and member of the School Management. Co-founded 1st Al-Abrar Academy in 2017, where he remains committed to staff training, supervision, and purposeful nurturing of learners. Served in multiple roles within AMIS Niger State Chapter, including Public Relations Officer and committee member, before becoming National Secretary of AMIS Nigeria (2019 - April 2025), now serving as Ex-Officio member at the national level and Secretary at AMIS Niger State Chapter (April 2023). Actively contributes to mosque administration, welfare committees, and da'wah programmes.
